5413, Under an Angry Sky

Want to hear it?  Here’s the YouTube link: Under an Angry Sky

The person for whom I wrote this song had no natural or learned defenses against screaming and shouting.

I dug deep for it.

There’s a favorite line or two in it: “Would you forgive me if I searched for someone new?  Someone to remind me how night feels when love is true…”

Notes:  Initially, I wanted to do a full band recording but to sing it, I had to re-inhabit the place where I wrote it.  That was harsh.  In the end I just left it like it was – a demo intended to share with my favorite musicians, pre-rehersal, pre-session.

Many thanks to Tyler Wood for sharing one his remarkable lightning photos.

Under an Angry Sky

I need to know how you feel

‘Cause lately something’s changed

You say that your heart’s still here

But you don’t seem the same

Sometimes a heart can be so torn

It never mends

How to explain this

To our children and our friends?

We’ve been together

Through the laughter, tears, and sorrow

Until tonight I thought there’d

Always be tomorrow

Words cut so deeply

When they’re shouted out in pain

No sense pretending

Things can ever be the same

So here we lie in bed

With nothing left to say

There’s no one to blame

At the closing of the day

There’s no animosity

And no use in asking why

Its just one more night together

Under an Angry Sky

Just one more night together

Under an Angry Sky

Would you forgive me

If I searched for someone new?

Someone to remind me

How night feels when love is true

Life goes so quickly

And when darkness overtakes

I’ll forgive you your weaknesses

You’ll forgive me my mistakes

So here we lie in bed

With nothing left to say

There’s no one to blame

At the closing of the day

There’s no animosity

No use in asking why

Its just one more night together

Under an Angry Sky

Just one more night together

Under an Angry Sky
