What can I say?  I was 22, deeply in love with a brilliant, enchanting, beautiful, focused concert pianist who was headed for study at the Sorbonne.

What’s a guy to do but write a love song?  The way I structured it, the verses are my narrative and the chorus is what I hoped to hear her say back to me.  I recorded it at Lost Lady Studio in Hanover, PA.  Her talented brother played the acoustic lead guitar on this track.  It was mid-late 70s.  I still had thick hair…

Last time I talked to her, she married the perfect guy, had a wonderful family, and we laughed about all those years ago –  walking back to our hotel after dinner in the pouring rain because the Paris taxi driver resolved only to take us as far as all the francs we could gather between us added up to.  I still remember the restaurant, the candles and the rest of it…

She knitted me a scarf.  It’s the longest one I’ve ever worn.

Cheers, Friend.  I wish you fair winds and that you find this song again.

Paris Blues

Paris might be beautiful in the autumn

And it might be pretty as the leaves float down the Seine

But that won’t change somebody’s feelings back in good old USA

‘Cause this one, that you’ll be leaving here still longs to hear you say

“Baby bring me back home again, I’ll never roam away

Take me in your arms again and let me hear you say

Baby take me back home again and never let me go

These 2000 miles have made me feel so low”

Well I know you had plans to go when I met you

Though I did not know that you had planned to stay so long

And thinking about the coming year, not knowing what will be

I only hope that when you come back home you’ll bring your love to me

“Baby bring me back home again, I’ll never roam away

Take me in your arms again and let me hear you say

Baby take me back home again and never let me go

These 2000 miles have made me feel so low”

“Baby bring me back home again, I’ll never roam away

Take me in your arms again and let me hear you say

Baby take me back home again and never let me go

These 2000 miles have made me feel so low”
